In order to SELL quality used bicycles, Houston Bike Exchange obviously needs to BUY quality used bicycles.

*** If you have a good, quality bicycle that you would like to sell or trade in on another bike – don’t go to a pawn shop or practically give it away at a garage sale — please contact us!  ***

Generally speaking we do not deal in $50, $100, $150, $200 bikes, etc.  There’s just no money in those… unless someone just GIVES them to us… which happens from time to time.  We don’t buy / sell or trade single speeds, fixies, BMX bikes, kids bikes, recumbants, Walmart / department store bikes, comfort bikes, folding bikes, generally weird or super narrow niche bikes, etc.

We MAY be interested in SOME vintage bikes.. but they need pretty sweet… pretty cherry… generally road bikes, mixtes, old European bikes, old Japanese bikes, etc.

Our baliwick is full carbon road bikes from the 90’s through today.  Those are the bikes we SELL the most–so those are the bikes we BUY the most.  This would include tri / TT bikes… though we don’t really buy or sell many of those either–because there’s just no a big market for those.

But we also buy / sell / trade alloy / aluminum framed bikes, titanium framed bikes, and steel framed bikes… as long as they meet the general guidelines mentioned above.

And we DO buy and sell good quality / fairly recent mountain bikes… and a few nice / higher end hybrids now and then… nicer / higher end city / townie / cruiser bikes.  But not that often.  (Generally speaking, if the bike didn’t cost at LEAST $500 new… we probably won’t buy it.)

If you have a used bike that you would like to donate to a good cause, there are usually community bicycle organizations that will gladly accept those bikes or bike parts.  (see link below for a nationwide list of them)

If you cannot find a community bicycle organization in your area, you can always donate your bike to the Salvation Army, Goodwill Industries, your local church or faith based thrift shop!

If and when people drop off / donate their bikes / gear to us, we generally donate 100% of the proceeds from those in the form of sponsorships to various riders (colleagues and / or customers who bought their bikes from use) in various local and national charity rides… like the MS-150, Tour de Rouge, AIDS/LifeCycle Ride, etc–or GoFundMe campaigns for cyclists who’ve been injured in bike crashes.

(Wehave paid out +/- $5000 in various charity ride sponsorships and cash donations of this type over the years–certainly more than the combined value of the various bikes that have been “donated” to us over that period.)

But we are clearly NOT a “non-profit” organization.  So, you are not going to get a tax write of from donating bikes or gear to us.  Because that’s not our mission.  We’re not ASKING for donations… sometimes people just ASK if they CAN drop their old bikes / bike-related stuff off to us–so it doesn’t go in the landfill.  And we do accept those if they are usable / fix-able / re-sellable
